salmon spawning

When adult salmon arrive in a river they spawn. When salmon spawn they start to lose their official color.  The male's jaw curves and can't eat. The female makes a nest for the babies  with her strong tail. Female salmon can have about 800 eggs in two hours.

As  you can see here, the female has to pick the strongest  male to protect the babies from the female. 

where do salmon live

Salmon live mostly in the U.S.  They live in the rivers, then the sea.

A lot live in Alaska, California and China. But more live in Alaska,  about 98% of salmon live there.

As The Fish

I'm still eating my yolk sack but it is getting smaller by the day. I wonder what I will eat when the yolk sack is gone. Maybe I'll die from starvation! Or maybe I will get flushed by those big monster things that are 100 times bigger than me. Well whatever my watery fate is I hope it is in the river. I want to be in the flowing water and I want to see the all the eerie kind of plants. I feel the slippery smooth creepy feel of the glass under me. It smells like rotten fish with a hint of poo. I do not dare to taste the side of the aquarium because like I said, it smells horrid. It's scary to look out of aquarium because it's like looking out of a tall building in New York City. It sounds like bubbles popping and water proof machines working.    

How to help Salmon

Some dam builders made fish ladders so salmon can climb up it and get to a different part of the river. This is one way they help them. The fish ladders provide salmon with routes around the dams. Stronger fish can climb the ladder, but weaker fish can not. You can help salmon by keeping rivers clean so Salomn can live a happy life.
